The
Beacon Early Childhood program welcomes children at age 3 who are toilet trained.
The maximum number of children in a class is 12 with
one to two teachers depending on the time of day and activity.
Individualized
Focus on Skills & Self-Esteem
Beacon's program is designed to identify each child's abilities and needs.
Beacon's teachers, because of their training and experience, are specialists
in providing for the safety, nurturance and social needs of their students.
Our teachers' address
each child's need to know that he or she is important, capable and lovable.
The teachers also guide the children in learning respect and empathy for
others. In addition to the major emphasis on socialization skills, students
participate in pre-academic instruction. These activities support the
growth of basic reading and math skills.
Small
Group Settings
In recognition of children's different developmental pace, skill instruction
occurs in smaller groups within the classroom.
Creative
Arts Infusion
Early childhood is a period marked with creativity, involving the child's
entire personality and ability to find expression.
The classroom program
is filled with daily arts activities. Once a week students attend a class
in music and a class in dance taught by skilled artist-teachers in specially
designed facilities.

Highly
Skilled Faculty
Beacon's Early Childhood faculty is made up of highly skilled, seasoned and
enthusiastic experts in early childhood development. Combined, the teachers
have over 40 years of experience in early childhood education.
The Early Childhood is in
a separate area from the older children's classrooms, and the younger
children have their own large, age-appropriate playground.
Throughout the year
Early Childhood students have the opportunity to participate in carefully planned
activities involving the older students. These and other elements combine
to make children feel that they are important members of the community.
Open
Communication & Parent/Guardian Involvement
Parents and guardians are always welcome at Beacon, and family involvement
in the various school activities is encouraged.
Teachers keep parents
informed about classroom activities and their child's progress. In-depth
parent/teacher conferences occur three times each year.
The Beacon Day School Family Association (BFA) also sponsors regular curriculum chats, facilitates
communication and provides support for the Beacon community. The BFA strongly
encourages participation, although it is not required.
Celebrations
& Events
Beacon's vibrant Early Childhood community recognizes and celebrates the diverse
cultures of the student body with special activities and events. In addition,
the students attend fun, engaging enrichment performances by visiting
artists.
