Thank you for your interest in Beacon Day School. Admission is based on a written application, teacher recommendation forms, an assessment given at Beacon Day School and the previous school records for 6th-8th grade applicants only. The Admissions Committee seeks students and families who will thrive in the educational community at Beacon Day School. Tuition Assistance
The Beacon Day School philosophy has identified diversity within its student/family population as a priority for the present and future lives of our children. The Tuition Assistance (TA) Program is one component of our commitment to diversity.

The School provides funds for TA. This assistance is intended as a supplement to family resources. TA decisions are made independently and are not related to the applicant's chances for admission. Any student Pre-K through 8th grade may apply for Tuition Assistance.

All information regarding TA is kept strictly confidential during the application process as well as during the years that the student attends Beacon Day School. At any time during the tuition assistance process, you may call Julia Catania in the Finance Office directly at (510) 437-2312.

Requirements
Parents/Guardians are required to submit 1) a completed Parent Financial Statement (PFS) to the School & Student Service for Financial Aid, 2) a copy of their 2006 1040 tax return, 3) a signed form 4506 and 4) a Beacon Day School information form. Awards are based on the demonstrated need of the family and the availability of school funds.

Renewal
Every TA award is made for one academic year only. It may be renewed upon application.

Priorities
Consideration for financial assistance is given to: 1) re-enrolling students previously granted assistance who have completed all financial aid application requirements on time, 2) new applications for assistance from currently enrolled students when completed on time, 3) newly accepted applicants who have completed their financial aid applications on time and 4) if any funds remain, new and renewal applications completed after the specified deadlines. Funds cannot be reserved for families whose paperwork is received after the stated deadlines.

Resources
The primary responsibility for financing a student's independent school education rests with his/her family. Beacon Day School will consider the assets of parents and/or guardians, regardless of marital status, before making any award. If a custodial parent has remarried, we will consider the assets of the step-parent, bearing in mind the obligations that the step-parent might have to his or her own natural children. The non-custodial parent is required to complete a PFS form to be submitted to the school. All income sources from any legal guardian for a child will be considered before making any award.

Any financial support that may be available beyond the parents' income and assets should be reported on the PFS for consideration by the school. These might include resources from grandparents or other relatives.
